Notes
- Don’t think Cromwell’s face is ever narrated or reflected, purely displayed in the comments of others. Is he ugly? Thuggish? “sinner’s aspect”
Writing Style
Distinctive prose that flows between and interweaves the live narrative with the narrative character’s thoughts and feelings, memories and flashbacks. Won’t hesitate to get lost within a paragraph in a totally separate anecdote or thought branching from the main narrative, even at risk of losing readers. Equally unafraid to cut the sideshow short and dive back into current events.
Can be tougher going. Perhaps some rewarding value in following the fleeting and bleeding nature of conscious versus subconscious experience.
Quoted
[278 - Cromwell’s Appearance] “Believe me. I am sincere. I cannot help it if God has given me a sinner’s aspect.”
